The self-pay cost of my daughter's lap RNY in 2000 was $18,500. It was an all-inclusive contract rate which incorporated the surgeon, assistant, anesthesiologist and hospital. Our surgeon is internationally recognized and patients travel from all over the US and Canada for his services. It is my understanding that the cost has not increased significantly since her surgery, but his office could provide you with further information if you are interested. Dr. J.K. Champion, Marietta, GA...telephone: (770)425-5525...web site: www.drchampion.com. Good luck!

I have a friend that did self-pay with Dr. Chapmion, she paid $17,500.00. She was told that it would be going up a little, so I bet the $18,500.00 figure is right on the money. Good Luck

If you are self-paying, you might be able to negotiate a lower payment from the surgeon and the hospital. When you consult with the surgeon, let him know that your insurance isn't paying and that you'd like a prompt pay discount. Same thing with the hospital, before the surgery ask for an estimate of costs. Then speak to the Patient Accounts Manager and tell him/her that you are willing to pre-pay if they will give you a discount. I work in hospital finance and we do this all the time with self-pay and foreign patients.
