Question:
Does anyone know what tests are required by Dr. Keshishian pre-op?
An example might be like a psychological evaluation or something? — A V. (posted on October 11, 2001)

You definitely need a psych evaluation as that's required by Dr K's office
as well as most insurance companies. It's best if you goto someone who has
experience doing consults for WLS so they know what issues they should be
addressing. I went to one in Denver and the psychiatrist had dones a few
RNY's consults and did some research on his own and found out about the DS.
When I went in, I was pleasantly suprised since I thought I would have to
educate him as well. I also had to do an EKG, chest x-ray and bloodwork. I
still need to get a pre-surgical clearance from my local PCP as they can't
just use the physical I just had in September. Any additional tests would
depend on your co-morbidities and BMI. I know at least one person that had
to do a pulmonary lung function test and arterial blood gases. Dr K will
let you know what he needs done after the initial consult. I just did my
tests in Delano after my initial consult since I was in town an extra day,
although I did get them done the same day, except my chest x-ray which was
forgotten and I did the next day. If your insurance company requires a
nutritional consult, you would need to get that done, but only if your
insurance company requires it. We also have an e-group for the duodenal
switch as well as a separate one for Dr Keshishian's patients. (We have
separate groups for most DS docs actually). If you goto groups.yahoo.com
and do a search for duodenalswitch you should find the main group and if
you search for Keshishian you should find Dr K's. Send me an email if you
have any problems.
