Question:
I am one week post op and some days I can eat an entire can of soup for dinner.
I am so afraid I am doing something wrong and stretching my pouch but I do not feel full while I eat the soup. I have heard that I should be eating 1 oz of food 6 times a day. I know the soup is more than 1 oz. Need your honest help Thanks — Debbie C. (posted on October 6, 2001)

Relax your normal. Foods with lots of liquids wash right thru your pouch
enabling you to eat more. Same thing happens to me with containers of
chopped fruit in juice.

I was worried about the same thing when I was a new post op... soup and
liquids pass through your new stomach and dont have any substance in order
to fill it. Even soft foods squish right through... I freaked when I could
eat an entire container of yogurt, but not to worry. When you start eating
more solid foods you will see the difference and how full it makes you
feel.

Boy am I happy to read these answers, I was so bother by this same issue I
started to wonder if my Dr. did anything beyond making a big scare on my
stomach. I will tell say my first scramble egg filled me up when I had only
eaten half, so this really is something that changes with the introduction
of soft solid food.

Hi there. You're pretty fresh post op for this suggestion, but I wanted to
share. As I go through this process I find I'm able to eat more and more.
I often feel like I'm eating too much, like my pouch isn't working for me
anymore. The cure is to eat out. Go to any restaurant and order the
smalles thing on the menu. You won't finish it. Remember the days when an
appetizer was just the first course? Now it's three courses and you take
some home. That's what I do when I think I'm eating too much. Ditto on
the previous posts too.
