Question:
No BM or even gas
Hi! had surgery 10-2-01, today is 10-4-01. No BM, or even passing gas. Do I need to worry? If so what do I do to get things moving? Thanks — P M. (posted on October 4, 2001)

Well you are only 2 days out. Everything sort of lays dormant for a while.
However you should be passing gas. (what a fun subject..lol) I didnt do
either for a while and at about 3 wks I paid the price. I had severe pain
and needed to take pain meds. I finally started to take Milk of Magnesia
and that seems to get things moving. Any concerns you really should call
your Doctor. He will adivse you the best. Good Luck and feel good!

I didn't have a real bm for about 2 weeks after surgery. Then at 3 weeks I
got constipated and had the Milk of Mag. Since then I have them daily and
they are normal. No need to worry. Hopefully you're still in the hospital
and they didn't let you go without listening for bowel sounds. By the way,
you'll also use the bathroom a lot less for about a month. Good luck and
God Bless!

I had Open RNY on 9/13 and didn't have a BM until 9/18. Give yourself a
couple of days.

Good Morning and Congratulations on having your surgery! I don't think you
should worry about things just yet. I know that at 2 days out I hadn't had
anything that would leave much of a residue, and I wasn't burping much
because I hadn't had much. The gas just sat there for a while, I think!
(*Stupid Grin :P*) Give your poor little tummy a little time to
recuperate, and all will be well, IMHO.... Complete and speedy recovery,

I wouldn't worry. I had my surgery on 9/20 and didn't start passing gas
until 3 or 4 days out. I needed to get up and walk around more. I didn't
have a bowel movement until 7 days had passed and as of yet, I've only had
two in a little over two weeks.
