Question:
Has anyone read anything about the new surgery?
It is supposed to be some type of probe that is inserted into the abdomen and promotes weight loss. My boss read about it somewhere, and I saw it and just blew it off. Now I have to find out about it for him. It is supposedly adjustable and emits a "charge" of some sort???? Anybody? — Helena R. (posted on October 3, 2001)

During the past year, the FDA approved studies for a gastric pacemaker for
use in morbidly obese patients. My surgeon was one of the few surgeons
selected to participate in the study. Information could probably be
obtained from his office: Dr. J.K. Champion, Marietta, GA, (770)425-5525.
Good luck!

Are you referring to the Lap Band? If so, this procedure is not new in the
world at large. It was recently (June) approved by the FDA. I have
decided to have this surgery because it is seemingly minimally invasive.
You do not lose weight as rapidly as the RNY. Reportedly the weight comes
off at a pace of 2 lbs per week. From my own research, the side effects are
also less.

I also have heard about this, I just had my open RNY in June, but my sister
who is a RN told me about it. She told me that it is only for people 30 to
80lbs overweight though. Now dont quote me on this, but that is what she
told me. She said it was not designed for people that are 80lbs plus. But
again we just are talking about hear say. But it would be worth looking
into. *Smiles* Good Luck
