Question:
Has anyone felt that their stoma was stretched TOO much after endoscopy?
I had an endoscopy 2 weeks ago and had my stoma stretched. The technician showed me how big he stretched it, and it seemed huge to me. Now I feel like I can eat so much more often than before, and I get hungry much faster. Do you think he ruined it for me??? — mom2jtx3 (posted on October 2, 2001)

I had an EGD in April/May of this year. That made me 1 year Post-op. She
used a regular size tubing to do the procedure. After returning home from
the hospital, I started looking up on this. What I found is that the
gastroenterologist should have used the tubing that is used in a infant
colonoscopy. And yes, my stoma opening into my small intestine is toooo
large. Food doesn't stay in my pouch long enough to pick up with any
stomach enzymes. It sort of bypasses the stomach all together. Soooo, I
never get the FULL feeling anymore. I still have alot of abdomen pain. They
think it could be from my food going directely into my small intestine at a
high rate of speed. That my intestines are like screaming for the
nutrients. I was down to 120# at the time I became sick. I am now up to
145-150#. That is a little scary, but I need to continue to eat enough to
keep from being malnourished.Good Luck to you, and My God Bless You --
