Question:
I have a question about Dr. Mirande's procedure...
A Dr. Mirande in Klamath Falls Oregon has been advertising lately. I went to see him for a consult but towards the end of his consult he informs me that he does NOT transect the stomach. I know all the more experienced bariatric surgeons do the transection. I'm wondering if any of you Mirande patients have any fears about this? I'm thinking about moving on to a more experienced surgeon myself, but I would like your imput, thanks. — Frank M. (posted on September 24, 2001)

I don't think experience determines whether the stomach is transected or
not. My surgeon, Dr. James Weber, doesn't transect except in extraordinary
circumstances, and he's got over 1000 surgeries under his belt with a
better-than-average success rate. I'd definitely do a little more research,
but you probably shouldn't base your decision on whether a surgeon
transects or not.

my surgeon, who knows dr fobi & compares notes with him from time to
time, does not agree with transecting the stomach. he told me why but i
forget the reason. my surgeon has been doing this surgery for over 20 years
& has a fantastic success rate.
