Has anyone experienced upper leg numbness after surgery?

I had surgery on December 1st and since than I have numbness on the right side of my upper thigh. From time to time I get a throbbing feeling in that area almost as if the feeling is trying to come back and than the throbbing goes away. I asked my surgeon and he said that this is normal and the feeling should come back. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as I am getting a little paranoid that something is wrong. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
