What meds should I be taking to insure my surgery won't be held back for any reason?

I've heard all these stories about "I have to be off this med for 6 months before surgery," or "My iron levels are too low, so surgery is postponed." What meds should I be taking to insure all my levels are up to par? My consult isn't until November, but I figure why wait!
