What happens if my iron level is too low, will I still have my scheduled surgery?

The nurse told me that I have to start taking vitamins now so that my iron levels won't be so low that she would have to cancel my surgery date. Is the iron level being too low common, do I have anything to worry about. I also got my "little friend" now and my PATS are scheduled for July 31st. The last thing I want is for her to tell me that my iron is too low and I have to reschedule my surgery. My job has already approved my time off.
