Is it possible to have WLS while going thru treatment?

After a sigmoidioscopy, I was diagnosed two weeks ago with the onset of diverticulitis, by a gastrologist and have was prescribed Bentyl and 6 weeks of Fiber therapy. I saw my PCP 4 day's ago and she was going to put in the referral to see the surgeon; however, I just called and they said that they had to modify the referral to see if the gastrologist says it's okay to see the WLS surgeon. My question is... wouldn't the symptoms of diverticulitus improved with having the WLS? I'm just so frustrated right now... it seemed that we were making progress and now I feel there's going to be a set back. I also found out that nothing has been sent to my insurance company yet...<sign!>
