Anyone have any personal info good or bad about going to Mexico for surgery?

I have a freind who is considering having surgery in Mexico due to Ins not paying for it. I have looked at the south of the border and read testimonials but oddly enough most of them only tell how they spoke or emailed the surgeons and they seemed nice. Not much on how their actual surgeries & experiences went. Have any of you or anyone you have know went to Mexico?
