I am confused about whether or not it is best to have your stomach transected?

When I had my consult with my surgeon, I remember him telling me that he is willing to transect the stomach as long as I understand the increased risks. He explained the risks to me, and at the time I thought it best NOT to transect. Since that time, I have been researching this more carefully and it sounds like it is better to transect. Could you guys please explain the pro's and con's of each for me? My surgery is on Jan 12,2001, so I need to know for sure which is the best option for me.
