A matter of Life and Death...How do you get approved with Medicaid in GA?

Would someone need to go to their GP and take it from there? Has anyone in GA been approved with Medicaid, if so what did you have to do? What "hoops" did they make you jump through in order to get approved? A friend of mine needs this surgery in the worst way. He hasn't even got on Medicaid yet but I am worried if he doesn't soon he will die. Any information would help so much...thanks.
