What does a Hernia feel like?

I am awaiting my psy eval. in May...and was curious...I read some where that you can "feel" if you have any hernias in your stomach by just pushing lightly. They mentioned something about the two muscles on either side of your lower ad should be joined in the middle and shouldn't not have a "break" in them that you can feel. Mine do. Very noticeable when you feel around. What does this mean?
