Do Pills Sit In Our Stomachs?

I heard that when you take pills, they will sit in your stomach for hours! Being post-op, I heard that when we tak e acalcium pill, because of the fact that we don not have the acids to break down the pills, it sits in our stomachs for HOURS before beginning to decompose. That is not a good thing. What do you think?
