Can I have novacaine and nitrous oxide as a post op

I am having a problem with a tooth and I have a feeling that I will have to visit the doctor in the near future. I have always had a shot of novacaine and nitrous oxide for the pain and to calm my nerves. Can I still have both as a post op? Thanks
