Why when you tell people you want the surgery they try to talk you out of it?

I want this surgery. I've tried LA Weightloss, Slimfast, home diet, Diet from Nutritionist, nothing worked. I'm tired of YO yo dieting. How can I convince these people that the surgry will help me. I'm 23 5'5" 282 and have family his of Heart Disease and strokes and Cancer and Diabetes.
