How far in advance are pre-op tests done?

My doctor said my pre-op would be on 12/4/01 and the surgery on 12/12/01. Now they have changed the pre-op to 12/11/01 and the surgery is still on 12/12/01. I am just nervous they are going to find something that postpones the surgery.
