How helpful are Nioxin and similar shampoos?

I am 10 weeks post op and have noticed that I have already started with hairloss. My surgeon tells me that I am getting plenty of protein, and he doesn't recommend anything else. But, it's not his hair!! Now that I think of it, he doesn't have much hair!! Anyway, I am looking for some input from those who have used Nioxin and similar products for their hair loss. I've always had some, as I have pretty long hair, but I would say the loss has double - trippled what I normally have, and I'm nowhere near the 4 months that most people seem to be at when they start with the hair loss. Any other input would also be appreciated.
