What side effects do antidepressants cause?

I have recently sought out treatment for depression. I have had it many times in the past, but it usually would only last a month or so, but this has been going on for about 6 months. I have hit the bottom of the barrel, and my PCP suggested antidepressants and I was curious if anyone had any comments as to side effects or efficacy. Thanks in advance.
