Will I ever be able to wear shorts/bathing suits?
I just saw a Plastic Surgeon for the first time since my surgery. I was really looking forward to getting work done on my legs because as they are now I wouldnt want to be seen in shorts or wearing a bathing suit. I have two problems: 1) excess skin on my inner thighs and 2) large calves (18"). Both of these conditions make me embarassed to wear anything but long dresses and pants. I am single, approaching 30 and live in an area where the sun is shining for most of the year (people actually wear shorts year-round). I was really hoping to one day have a normal body that I wouldnt have to be ashamed of but now that Ive lost weight Im stuck with legs that need to be hidden. The plastic surgeon said that the chances of my calves getting slimmer is minimal (the muscle is large from carrying excess weight for years) and that the skin on my thighs wont improve either because of my age. He said he could improve them with surgery but that I would have large amounts of scarring that would run the entire length of my thigh. I was thinking that to remove the skin they could perform the surgery in a way to make the scar be hidden away at the top of the thigh in the bikini area. Im really depressed and hope maybe to hear from someone in a similar situation who has answers on what I can do. I dont think I would bother with surgery if it left me with the scarring he showed me in pictures. I scar easily and dont expect it to heal well. If anyone out there can offer recommendations on what can be done for me I would appreciate it. Its been 1 1/2 years since my surgery.
