Insulin Dependent for 31 yrs.

I started taking insulin when I was 18 yrs. old and now I am 49 yrs. old and I want to know if anyone who has taken the shots for this long has came off insulin? I take two shots a day I am praying I can stop taking them after surgery. The Dr. said I might get off shots but he has'nt any pts. that have taken shots that long he said I might have to take a pill.
