Hernia repair without mesh???

Is it possible for a surgeon to repair an incisional hernia without having to put in metal mesh? The hernia is pretty big and growing but I have to wait until I'm closer to goal to have it repaired. I am hoping the lower weight might improve my chances of it not returning and not needing mesh, I don't want to feel bionic.
