What is the importance of ketosis in the first month post-op?

I am just beginning a move to soft foods after three weeks post-op. I bought ketosis strips and understand how to use them but it is terribly important to be in ketosis when we are already on a very limited food intake? Even my protein powder has carbs in it: how can we reach ketosis when one cup of milk each day prevents it? Feeling kinda anxious (can you tell?) :)
