Can someone tell me about left ventricular hypertrophy?

I had a stress test and an echo yesterday for preop testing. Dr decided at the last minute to do an echo since I have a history of high blood pressure. I was told that I have left ventricular hypertrophy, in other words in my case most likely mild heart failure. Has this detered anyone else's decision to have this surgery and did you get a second opinion from a cardiologist? Just wondering...thanks...jane.
