How do I switch my ins. co. through my employer before open enrollment?

I want to switch my ins. co. to bc/bs through my employeer. My Open enrollment does not take effect till May 1st. Does anyone know how I might be able to switch carriers?? The only way I know of is to switch my status from full time to per diem then hbire back in to a full time position, but they have a hiring freeze on and it will probably be after open enrollment before I would even qualify for ins. again... Any suggestions? Should I just wait it out?
