Isn't a PCP a primary care physician?

I have been seeing the same doctor for the last 6 years but it looks like alot of the posties were assigned PCPs by their insurance carriers. Is this true? I couldn't fathom the idea of changing to a doctor that Cigna PPO wants. Cigna pays for all my visits so why change. And I know that my doctor would do most of my pre-op testing. Maybe I'm missing something here. Could someone please explain? Thanks, Claire
