Pain that doesn't subside upper abdomin & stomach, just under ribs, why?

Six months ago I had this and now it's back. I'm 18 months post op and eat pretty much what ever I want. I haven't been able to relate the pain to any certain food. I've had my gall bladder removed so it's not that. My ribs feel sore to the touch. I'm not excercising too much or anything like that. I've tried every OTC med I can. Help! My doctor says it's nothing. But I can't function in this much pain. My surgeon is far away so I haven't asked him. Thanks!
