Can we or can we not drink Carbonation Drinks?

Hi All, My surgeon told me that carbonation drinks were out. That there is studies that show that carbonation stretches the new stomach. I really hope that the Doctors on here can shed light on this. I am dying for my diet 7Up. Thanks.
