Does anyone else have problems with eating when they are constipated?

I am 5 weeks out of surgery, just starting solids, but I've noticed that if I'm constipated at all, the tiniest nibble of anything makes me want to vomit. As soon as I have a bm I am able to eat again. Is this normal? Any help will be appreciated!!!
