Anyone Eastern Orthodox and how did the fastings and communion affect you?

I am an Orthodox Christian where fastings and weeking communion are part of who we are? Has anyone else here had this surgery and how did you handle communion and the fastings? I would appreciate any advise. Thank you, Linda
