How do I deal with the negative comments?

I am having surgery on Oct 7th and I am receiving very negative comments from people when they learn of my surgery plans. They tell me all the horror stories and stuff like why Don't you just keep dieting? Does anyone have any special ways they dealt with this? Or am I the only one? I don't tell many people for these reasons. I feel confident that this surgery will work for me why can't others be happy for me?
