Can anyone help me with this pain?

Hi everyone, I am 3 weeks pre-op and I have been having UNBEARABLE pains in my left side. THey took my gallbladder out so I know it isn't that. It is to the point where I am in tears and I have a large pain tolerace. What is it? What is a hernia? My surgeon is out of town until next week should I go to the ER. It is constant but when it hits it hits HARD and I cannot walk. It is really scareing me. Anyone go through this before?
