Do I need to return to pcp for referral to different surgeon?

Hi, I'm Mandy. I have been approved for a referral to a surgeon that I'm not sure I want to go to . I actually did not know I had choices. When asking my pcp for referral I told her where I wanted to go to, now I've found another doctor who does lap that I might want a consult with. I have never had insurance before so I am at a loss to know who is covered. If I change would I need to return to my pcp or deal with insurance or what??? thanks for any help Mandy
