I'm 9 mo. out from surgery and now it hurts when I drink water - why?

When I first had surgery I had trouble drinking water. My doctor said it was normal and it would get better as time went on -- he was right. But now, 9 months later, it's starting to hurt when I drink water. Food goes down OK, but hurts when I drink water, also burb a lot. Anyone had this happen or have any clues what's going on? I'm wondering about an ulser?
