Will I eventually be able to drink sodas and alcohol?

My surgeon says I will never drink alcohol again, but he's very strict. I just wondered if y'all drink. I never had alcohol that often before but was curious. As for soda, I SO miss my diet Dr. Pepper and wondered if soda is okay eventually. Thanks for any help!
