Suggestions on tastless protein powder/drinks

Carmen, You can get your protein requirement from food sources and avoid the powder, drinks and bars. That stuff still gags me! YUCK! The first week post-op I tried to use it and while the pouch would have appreciated it, the mouth could not tolerate it! I started getting creative on foods heavy in protein that were easy to digest - especially seafood. Broiled salmon, tuna, whitting, grouper, etc. all are PACKED with protein - put on your favorite seasoning and enjoy! 6 - 8 servings per day get the protein to 50 - 60 grams easily. Additionally, soft cheeses are also another good source of both protein and calcium such as eggs and yogurt. Regular oatmeal only has 3 grams of protein but you can add milk or cream and up goes the protein. Again, all foods that are easy on the pouch and palate. My surgeon advanced me on Day 14 post op and I continue to monitor my food regimen which continues protein heavy. I have put together a "bible" for myself that contains counts of protein/carb/fat/ calories for EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth - even fast foods. Get creative and try new foods - this is a new lifestyle that requires some research as well as trial and error. Don't feel bad about abandoning the powders/drinks/shakes - you DO have other options and I promise you, will be successful! Best wishes! Susan Kane
