Help! Has anyone dealt with MMSI?

Last week I faxed over my papers to get the approval process started. I called today, and they said they still do not have them, and the department that might will only accept phone calls from the doctor. They have been like this from the beginning. They would not tell me what the requirements for the surgery were, they made me have my doctor call them. Is this right?! Why won't they talk to me, I am the patient! I don't like calling and buging my doctor over little things like sending a fax! Someone please help! I have noticed that a couple of people said they were approved by MMSI in 1 week, and they told me on the phone not to expect anything for 3-4 weeks?!
