Would hypothyroidism be considered a comorbidity?

My husband was thinking about maybe having surgery in the future. He is 5'10 and 280 lbs, which would make his BMI 40.2. He has hypothyroidism and sleep apnea and occasional back pain. The only thing that is stopping him from pursuing surgery right now is that he has to have at least 6 months of documented diet attempts, and he doesnt have that. Thanks!
