I want to smoke so bad,,,, how can it hurt me?

I am 10 days post op and I smoked up until the morning of surgery,,,,, I had no complications after surgery, but I want to smoke so bad that I want to scream. I asked my dr. and he said that if I smoke that it could cause a ulcer... Has anyone heard of such a thing? I have had different surgerys in the past and smoked afterwards.. I feel like I am going crazy,, someone please help.
