How normal is a bleeding ulcer?

OK I am scared to death,,, I am having my open RNY on 9/26/02, and my friend had the same surgery on 8/22/02, and 1 1/2 weeks pre-op she ended up in the ICU from a bleeding ulcer and had to have 2 blood transfusions... how comen is this? I am getting a little scared, and I dont know who to turn to for information but to the people that have had WLS. HELP PLEASE, I AM SCARED,,, :-(
