Will I always have this problem or will it improve after surgery??

I'm wondering if anyone can tell if edema of the legs is mostly from MO,or is it something that I may always have? I only have it in the left leg,along with severe vericous veins.I am to self concious to wear shorts or dresses cuz my left leg is almost 2 inches bigger then the right due the swelling.I do take a prescription diaretic(sp?)but it doesn't seem to help.Please tell me that this will go away along with the extra weight?? Thanx in advance........
