leakage in attachment or respitory system

My friend is 11 days out of an open rny. His temp raised to 101 and was sent back to hospital, the doc says he has a leakage either in the attachment or in the respitory system, some food has leaked out. He is now as we speak back on the operating table we do not know for how long, they must search for the leakage and correct it. Another twist is that he has mild pneumonia in part of his lung. Does anyone know if this can be correct successfully with surgery and how the pneumonia will possibly effect the results ?
