Is it dangerous to have this while on your period? Lost blood in surgery & on thinner

Okay, so it's another period question. I was just thinking though, you're already bleeding, you lose blood during surgery, and then you're on blood thinners. Loss of blood concerns me. My dad became anemic after his surgery and they took him off of thinners because he was losing so much blood, he developed 3 clots that went to his lungs and he almost died. Are clots heriditary?
