How long to get a surgery date?

I am going to a two hour information session on Monday 11/27. I am wondering what happens at this session and when the paperwork is submitted to insurance (providing that's how you want to go). I'm looking for a timeframe from session to surgery date. What happens in between? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
