HELP, I was told today that i have a Hialtal Hernia

i was told today that i had a hiatal hernia. i read in the library that it is pretty common, but what exactly is it and how do they repair it? They also said I had a cholestrol blob thingy ( ? ) on my gallbladder, is that bad and will either prevent surgery????
