When would be the best time for me to have my husband take off work?

My supportive husband is allowed to take off from work for only one week when I have my surgery. My question is would it be better for me if he takes the week off after I am home from the hospital or better to have him stay at the hospital with me and go back to work after I get home for a couple of days. I will be having a open RNY at a hospital an hour away from my home which wouldnt make it that difficult for him to visit me after work a couple of days during my hospital stay.
