Any ideas on insurance companies that will take an individual post op patient?

I am a 1 year post op patient who has been under grad school insurance till this coming August. I am finding it difficult to find insurance companies who will take me. I will not be working this year (2 kids in kindergarten) and need my own insurance. Any ideas?
