How soon and how often do you need to see the doctor after surgery?

I have been transferred to Puerto Rico due to work. I am thinking of having the surgery done at BTC in Wylie, Texas but am concerned of how often I need to fly and what would happen if I need emergency care. I don't trust the hospitals in Puerto Rico.
